Concurrent Sessions

These 7, 50 minute sessions reflect the areas in which ERGs and Diversity Councils desire clearer understanding, greater insights, knowledge, skills and proven examples of best Council practices. They are led by some of the most respected and accomplished D&I organizational leaders.

Sessions 1 through 4 will run concurrently on the first day and be repeated 3 times consecutively. Participants will be able to experience 3 of the 4 sessions in their entirety:


    Session 1 - Increasing Council & ERG Effectiveness By Engaging Executive Leaderships

    Facilitator: Ken Barrett, Chief Diversity Office, General Motors

    Description: There is a clear need to successfully engage senior leadership to get them more involved and committed to Council and ERG strategies. This session outlines the key efforts that must be initiated by Councils and ERGs to promote greater involvement and to sustain accountability. Common mistakes and barriers will be identified and strategies provided to increase effectiveness.

    Session 2 - Building Success with Global Councils - The Next Horizons

    Facilitator: Fernando Serpa, Director, Global Diversity and Inclusion, Johnson Controls

    Description: In expanding their global business reach, organizations must realize the importance of leveraging councils globally to play a significant role in this effort. This session clarifies the business case and rationale for Diversity Council and ERG involvement and highlights what it takes to start and sustain commitment across the organization. Key tips will be provided as well as a discussion around the traps that could derail your strategies.

    Session 3 - Leveraging Involvement with LGBT to Enhance Performance and Increase Results

    Facilitator: Kevin Jones, Deputy Director, Out & Equal Workplace Advocates

    Description: As organizations broaden their range with Diversity & Inclusiveness, it is critical to promote greater understanding and involvement with the LGBT community. This session discuses the value added of increasing involvement and discuss best practices. Common pitfalls will be identified within a discussion centered around practically and immediately leveraging results.

    Session 4 - Getting Started - Diversity 101

    Description: Often ERGs and Diversity Councils fail because they have not correctly addressed the fundamentals of what it takes to succeed and sustain performance. This session will identify the key elements that must be considered if one is to be successful. Best practices will be highlighted that should assist ERGs and Diversity Councils from repeating the same errors or re-inventing the wheel.

Sessions 5 through 7 will run concurrently on the second day and be repeated 2 times consecutively. Participants will be able to experience 2 of the 3 sessions in their entirety:


    Session 5 - Driving Hard Results Through Innovation

    Facilitator: Sherene Peart, HR Manager - US Head - Talent Engagement and Development at Wipro Consulting Services

    Description: Diversity and Inclusion can have a direct connection to innovation. This session will highlight how you make a significant impact on innovation and produce hard results which increase organizational effectiveness and business outcomes. Critical success factors will be outlined and elements that have worked pinpointed. There will also be a discussion about how you can enroll middle and senior management in a way that promotes buy-in and increases impact.

    Session 6 - Aligning Disabilities with the Organizational Strategy to Increase Results

    Facilitator:David Casey, Vice President Workforce Strategies and Chief Diversity Officer, CVS

    Description: Want to learn how to align disabilities with the organizational strategy to increase results? Attend this session to receive specific examples of what has worked and how to overcome barriers which limit performance. In addition, there will be a discussion around best practices and upcoming trends.

    Session 7 - Enhancing Business Results with ERGs

    Facilitator: Dr. Danielle Robinson, Director, Alcohol Policy and Reputation Management, Diageo North America

    Description: This session will clarify how ERGs make a distinct impact on the business and align with the business strategy successfully. Unique contributions and impacts the ERGs can make will be discussed as well as how to leverage strengths to produce stellar results. In addition, there will be a discussion around the power of middle management involvement and successful interventions with senior management.
