2012 Diversity Council Honors AwardThe Diversity Council Honors Award™ is the premiere annual award that recognizes honors and celebrates the outstanding contributions and achievements of diversity council groups (diversity councils, ERGs, Affinity and Network groups) that lead the diversity process in their organizations and demonstrate results in their workforce, workplace and marketplace. Recipients of the award set the standards of excellence for Council groups in the U.S. The Top 25 council recipients will receive their awards at the 4th Annual Diversity Council Honors Award Dinner during the inaugural 2012 Diversity Council Conference in Washington D.C. on October 4, 2012. Award BackgroundIn its fourth year, the Diversity Council Honors Award™ was established by the Association of Diversity Councils (ADC), a practice group of diversity and inclusion consulting and training firm PRISM International, Inc., in 2008. Linda H. Stokes, President and CEO of PRISM, says, “Our firm has assisted organizations with their diversity and inclusion initiatives. We recognized the important contributions and impact that diversity councils, ERGs and other groups had on their organizations; yet, for all their great efforts there was little national recognition. We wanted to change that.” PRISM created a specialized practice - the Association of Diversity Councils - to be the premier resource for diversity and inclusion council professionals. Philip Berry, Executive Director of the Association of Diversity Councils, adds, “The goal is to help councils and council members increase their impact and effectiveness in developing, implementing and maintaining an organizational strategic diversity focus. We wanted to recognize and honor the best practices and efforts…this was the basis for the annual Diversity Council Honors Award™.” A direct result of the Honors Award process is the creation and release of the annual Report of Survey Findings and Innovative Operating Practices. This report includes survey results, analysis compiled from the applications and provides statistical baseline data and highlights innovative operating solutions and best practices. “The work of these top councils elevates the overall significance and value of all councils. The strategies, tactics, activities, commitments, results and achievements they’ve identified help to set the standard of excellence for councils nationwide.” concludes Berry. 2011 Award RecipientsThe number of participants has increased every year. In 2011 there was an increase of 20% from 2010. The 2011 award recipients included nine first time applicant Councils and 16 returning Councils. Of those 16 returning Councils, 12 improved in the rankings. Award recipients include a diverse combination of corporations, federal government, non profits and higher education representing all sectors, geographies and sizes. 2011’s Top 5 award recipients include: U.S. Navy Strategic Diversity Working Group; 2. Wipro Technologies; 3. American Airlines; 4. FedEx Freight Diversity Council; 5. Boehringer Ingelheim Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Council.
